"I was born in the Far East to missionary parents & spent my early years in Java. It was as a child there that I came to faith in Christ. After schooling in the UK I went to university in Southampton where I was particularly influenced by the ministry of Leith Samuel at Above Bar Church. I taught history at secondary schools for six years in Wimbledon, Birmingham & Southampton where we were involved in churches of very varying size, before we moved to Landsowne Baptist Church in Bournemouth where I was assistant to the minister for three years. After that we moved to Widcombe Baptist Church where I became assistant minister in 1986 and senior minister in 1990. I am married to Margie and we have the privilege of having four children, all now adults."
